Michael Weil established Foothill Galleries in 2015 with the momentum of 30 years of camera work, photography education and art appreciation urging him on. He has a PhD in art history--with a concentration in photohistory--from Case Western Reserve University, and has taught art history at Northeast Ohio schools including Case, the Cleveland Institute of Art, and Cleveland State University. His artwork has been shown in exhibitions around Cleveland and has been acquired by the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Clinic, among other private collections.
Artists Statement:
I have been writing with light ever since childhood. A vocation, perhaps, but more pointedly an extension of my way of seeing, experiencing, and interpreting our world from my vantage point here. I’ve studied, written and taught about the medium of photography. Decades of wielding a camera, framing subjects, and contemplating creative solutions has led me through today with a curiosity for tomorrow. A PhD in photohistory gives me some kind of terminal credibility.
